Twenty years after he last won the Letham Grange Golf Club Championship, Dave Maxwell (on the left) rolled back the years to defeat Kenny Gardiner 2&1. The two contenders played some excellent golf throughout the 35 holes played in challenging conditions on Sunday 23rd June. Despite being 3 down in the second round, Dave kept his focus and won through in the end.
In the Marshall Quaich it was more of the same as Barrie Christine (on the left)successfully defended the title he won last year beating Callum Thomson in the 36 hole final. Barrie built up a healthy lead, which he defended well against some determined play from Callum, however Barrie dealt a considerable blow to his opponent on the 29th hole, his opponent was in great shape lining up his 15 foot birdie putt, when he sank his own 40 footer for a net eagle.
I want to thank all the golfers who played in this years competitions, I want to congratulate all 32 golfers who qualified for the knock-out stages of the Club Championship and Marshall Quaich competitions, and of course congratulations to Dave and Barrie for their victories and to Kenny and Callum for qualifying for the Finals.
Special thanks to David Dawson, Courses Manager, John Galloway Head Greenskeeper and the Greenskeeping team for having the Old Course in fantastic condition for the two weeks of the competition, to Ian Christine who coordinated the progress of the various rounds of the tournament from his sun lounger in Spain !! and last but by no means least to Stewart Melrose for refereeing the Club Championship Final.
